The MoU was signed by EERA Chairman Hervé Bernard and EUA President Professor Maria Helena Nazaré and took place during the EERA General Assembly, ahead of the 5th EERA Annual Congress on 30 April 2015.
Advanced energy technologies are crucial when fighting against climate change and securing energy supply. By 2050, the EU aims to cut its greenhouse gas emissions by 80-95% in relation to 1990 levels. This requires the transformation of the entire energy system using new and yet to be developed energy solutions. It also requires the development of new professional competences and skills.
On 11 December 2014, EUA organised a side event at the SET Plan Conference 2014 in Rome, Italy. The event, focusing on 'The Strategic Role of Universities in the SET Plan', presented UNI-SET to the conference audience and included a panel discussion on the role of universities in research and higher education in the energy field.
