How can universities mobilise, facilitate and increase their involvement in the European Strategic Energy Technology Plan (SET-Plan) and work more efficiently towards realising a low-carbon society?
These questions, that embrace all fields of knowledge, were tackled by UNI-SET, a three-year project under the European Commission’s Seventh Framework Programme (FP7), coordinated by the European University Association (EUA) and implemented jointly with the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (KU Leuven), representing the universities in KIC InnoEnergy, between September 2014 and December 2017.
UNI-SET mapped the activities of European universities in the field of energy and produced online, interactive maps displaying existing Master, Doctorate and Research programmes. Additionally, UNI-SET surveyed potential employers in the energy field to gain insights into current and future demand for professional skills and knowledge.
Both activities lead to a series of clustering events in 2016 and 2017, which brougt together the university community and other stakeholders discussing and shaping new activities in the field of energy. UNI-SET also coordinated extensive academic input to the SET-Plan process in the form of seventeen input papers and contributions to several SET-Plan Working Groups.
